Both paths before me align with different aspects of my personality. One path resonates with my rational, practical side, the voice that seeks financial security for myself and my child. The other path aligns with my irrepressible creative spirit, a force that has always been a part of me, no matter how I’ve tried to suppress it.
Throughout my life, I’ve oscillated between these two paths, seeking a balance between practicality and passion. The corporate world often values conformity and efficiency over creativity, making it difficult to nurture my artistic side within traditional work environments.
Recently, however, I’ve experienced a resurgence of my creative spirit. Doors that were once closed have begun to open, leading to unexpected opportunities. My short story, inspired by my grandmothers’ lives, was recently published, and I was selected to participate in a writers-directors program. These experiences have reignited my passion and connected me with a community of like-minded individuals.
During this program, a trainer emphasised the importance of living by our values and seeking joy in our daily work. The concept of joy resonated with us all, as our society often prioritises happiness over joy. Happiness can be elusive, tied to expectations and external factors. Joy, on the other hand, is a more tangible emotion that can be found in everyday moments.

Moving forward, I’m determined to choose a path that aligns with my true self, my “ikigai.” I encourage others to do the same, to seek joy and fulfilment in their lives. Let’s break free from societal expectations and pursue our passions, even if it means taking unconventional paths.
